Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about visiting our elephant sanctuary. If you need any more information, please get in touch.

What are the pick up times?

How far in advance do I need to book?We suggest that you book 1-2 weeks in advance during the high season (Dec - April). As soon as you have decided on the date of your visit, please make your booking with us to avoid disappointment.

What should I bring?We suggest that you bring the following items to make the most of your visit to our sanctuary: your passport details on your phone or a paper copy, cap or hat, closed toe shoes / trainers, clothes respectful to the local culture that you don’t mind getting dirty, sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, camera, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

How can I pay for my visit to Samui Elephant Sanctuary?We do not require a deposit when you make your booking online. You can pay for your visit in cash by Thai Baht on arrival at our sanctuary.

Can I drive to the sanctuary?Unfortunately, we don't allow people to arrive at the sanctuary by their own transportation. Instead, we ask that guests book online to visit our sanctuary (we suggest at least 1-2 weeks in advance during the high season). There is no public access to the sanctuary for safety and insurance purposes.

Do you accept guests at any other times apart from the scheduled tours?No. A booking for our morning or afternoon tour is required in advance before arriving at the sanctuary.

Are you still open if it rains?Yes, we are open whatever the weather conditions. Elephants love the rain and it is great fun to watch the elephants playing in the fresh mud. If it does rain, we provide rain ponchos and umbrellas.

How hot does it get?In Koh Samui, it is either humid and hot, or dry and hot! Please bring a hat and sunscreen. We provide chilled purified water throughout the tour.

Is it OK to bring infants and toddlers?Yes, we cater for children of all ages. Our program is relaxed and if you wish to return to the reception at any time, our staff will take care of you. Please note that strollers / pushchairs cannot be taken into the sanctuary area and will need to be left at the reception.

What food do you serve?We serve a delicious homemade Thai vegetarian buffet. Should you have any special dietary requirements, please advise us at least 24 hours prior to your arrival.

Is it possible to change the date of my tour?Yes, provided we have availability.

Do you recommend hotels?There are hundreds of hotels in Koh Samui catering to a broad spectrum of travellers. Please research through any online booking agent.

Do I need travel insurance?All visitors are covered by our accident insurance up to 200,000 THB, however, we recommend that you carry individual emergency medical and travel insurance.

What is your Privacy Policy?The use of any contact details that you provide to Samui Elephant Sanctuary Co. Ltd. are for booking purposes only. We do not sell, rent or share your personal information with any 3rd party, unless required by law.

Can I fly my drone?The use of drones is strictly prohibited as it scares our elephants. ​
