Bua Toom was born in 1970 and worked hauling logs out of the forest until the 1989 ban, followed by decades of giving rides at trekking camps in Kanchanaburi. 
 
Bua Toom was rescued and brought to Samui Elephant Sanctuary in 2020, where she has been waking up to a rich natural diet, a swimming pool, mud pit, and new friends with whom to enjoy it all. She can often be seen wandering the sanctuary and swimming in the custom-built pool with her friend, Jamie. Bua Toom loves coconuts and is adept at knocking them to ground and opening the fruit under the weight of her foot.
